A partire dalla prossima stagione scompariranno le «ombrelline», le ragazze sulla griglia di partenza prima dei Gran Premi. La decisione - comunicata oggi dall’organizzazione del circus automobilistico - avrà effetto immediato in tutte le altre serie del motorsport gestite dalla stessa società. Sean Bratches, direttore operativo delle operazioni commerciali di Liberty Media, ha spiegato di voler «sintonizzare questo sport con la nostra visione».

«Durante l’ultimo anno abbiamo osservato diverse aree che avevano bisogno di essere aggiornate - le parole di Bratches - Se le ragazze in griglia sono state impiegate per decenni come punto basilare dei Gran Premi, crediamo che questa abitudine non sia più in risonanza con i nostri valori, in chiaro contrasto con le norme della società d’oggi. Non crediamo sia una pratica appropriata o rilevante per la F1 e i suoi tifosi».
