Il nord di Los Angeles avvolto dalle fiamme a causa di un maxi incendio che si è sviluppato la scorsa notte e che si sta velocemente propagando al punto di costringere ad un’evacuazione forzata per circa 100mila residenti nell’area metropolitana.

Le fiamme del rogo denominato “Saddlebridge” si sono propagate nella notte dopo che un camion della spazzatura ha riversato dei rifiuti in fiamme tra la vegetazione. Sembrerebbe proprio questa la causa dell’incendio. Secondo le autorità un uomo è morto d’infarto mentre decine di abitazioni sono già state distrutte.

L’anno scorso, più o meno nello stesso periodo, un incendio, denominato Camp Fire, mandò in fumo oltre 50 mila ettari di terreno e provocò la morte di una cinquantina di persone. Camp Fire è stato uno dei peggiori roghi della storia negli Stati Uniti. Le fiamme raggiunsero anche Beverly Hills e zone di solito abitate da celebrities. Molte delle lussuose ville furono ridotte in cenere. Gli incendi non hanno risparmiato neanche il nord della California, dove nei giorni scorsi è scattato un black out preventivo proprio per evitarli. La società Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) ha lasciato al buio migliaia di persone nel tentativo di evitare che gli alberi abbattuti dai venti forti potessero travolgere le linee dell’alta tensione e innescare roghi nella vegetazione secca.
